Best Travel Guide To Sempaya Hot Springs In Semuliki National Park, Uganda
Discover Sempaya Hot Springs, the most outstanding attraction in Semuliki National Park located at the edge of the great Ituri forest, which borders Uganda and DR Congo on the remote western side of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges.
A visit to the ‘male’ and ‘female’ hot springs is the highlight of the visit to Semuliki National Park. These mega springs, which are almost a kilometer apart, have been sending up a thick cloud of steam from the forest floor. A plume of steam is easily noticed for miles. This pair of hot springs involves both male and female hot springs. The male hot spring is locally known as Biteete, a broad steaming pool, 12 meters in diameter and located an hour distant and located in a large swampy clearing enclosed by forest and with a striking Rwenzori backdrop.
The female hot spring is locally known as Nyansimbi which means 'the female ancestors', a boiling geyser that spurts bubbling water and it gushes out water approximately 2 meters in the air. Visitors can buy eggs locally to cook in boiling pools that surround the central spout. The indigenous Bamaga clan is the neighbor to these awesome hot springs and has interesting stories to tell from the folklore.
