Best Travel Guide To Tarangire National Park Wildlife in Tanzania
Unquestionably, the Tarangire National Park in Tanzania is a worthwhile safari park for any bird lover to visit in Africa. The Tarangire National Park is known as a wonderful birding destination; however, it also features large numbers of games, particularly during the dry season, when the Tarangire River is the only source of water in the area. The landscape is of particular interest too, due to the high number of scenic baobab trees.
About Tarangire National Park:
Tarangire National Park is a national park in Tanzania's Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. The Tarangire River is the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. The Tarangire Ecosystem is defined by the long-distance migration of wildebeest and zebras. During the dry season, thousands of animals concentrate in Tarangire National Park from the surrounding wet-season dispersal and calving areas.
Tarangire National Park Size and Landscape features:
It covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers (1,100 square miles.) The landscape is composed of granitic ridges, river valleys, and swamps. Vegetation is a mix of Acacia woodland, Combretum woodland, seasonally flooded grassland, and baobab trees.
Tarangire is a great bird-watching site with more than 550 species recorded. The park harbors several dry-country bird species at the extremity of their range, such as the northern pied babbler and vulturine guinea fowl. Serious bird lovers should also keep an eye open for flocks of the dazzlingly colorful yellow-collared lovebird, and the somewhat drabber rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling – all restricted to the dry savannah of north-central Tanzania
Best time to do birding in Tarangire National Park:
Birdlife is plentiful all year round, but bird watching is at its best when the European and North African migratory birds are present (November to April). Nesting among the resident birds is taking place during this same time, so it is easy to spot birds in their breeding plumage. Wildlife viewing is best during the Dry season (June to October).
