Travel Guide To Kamiranzovu Waterfalls Hiking Tour In Rwanda
Experience a beautiful hike of Kamiranzovu waterfalls situated in the heart of Nyungwe Forest National Park, Rwanda. Originating from the Kamiranzovu swamp, the biggest in the park, this mighty waterfall is one of Rwanda's natural wonders you must visit. The falls are approximately 17 meters high.
Nyungwe Forest Park is an important conservation area in Africa because it harbors quite several animals making it one of Rwanda's safari destination spots. Nyungwe National Park is located in the western Great Rift Valley it stretches from Lake Albert to Lake Tanganyika.
Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of the gifted areas in Rwanda that was gazetted in 1934 to protect wildlife and it’s today a habitat for over 13 primates including chimpanzees. The park is also a habitat to over 85 mammals, 1085 plant species, and 310 bird species.
It takes courage, patience, and energy to discover Kamiranzovu waterfall, located deep in Nyungwe Forest National Park, a dense and protected rainforest in southwestern Rwanda. Hiking the Kamiranzovu waterfall trail requires one to be physically fit because the hike is very tiresome as it involves hiking through steep slopes with muddy trails. Tourists have to walk for almost an hour and a half, through the forest, on what is termed a ‘nature walk’ to access the waterfall.
The walking trail is so fascinating featuring beautiful vegetation cover and trees along the way. The trail is approximately 10 km both ways, but being in the forest with a hilly landscape makes the trek long. The waterfall speed depends on the seasons but due to the long rainy seasons throughout the year, there is plenty of water. The mist created by dropping water also adds a beautiful scenic view of the falls.
The hiking of the waterfalls starts with a briefing where visitors are briefed about the tour and are allocated armed ranger guides to the waterfalls. The journey to the waterfalls takes visitors through thick vegetation covered with opportunities to see mammals, primates, and birds.
On arrival at the waterfalls, visitors enjoy beautiful views of the waterfalls, scenic views of surrounding vegetation, sightings of different bird species, and animals plus the primates including chimpanzees and monkeys. While in Nyungwe, visitors can also enjoy other activities such as canopy walks, tea plantation tours, monkey trekking, chimpanzee trekking, community visits, birding, and others.
