Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Gisenyi and Cross to Goma, Congo

Your adventure begins with pick-up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali by our professional safari guide.

Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a Kigali city tour including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and other historical sites before continuing westwards to Gisenyi, located on the shores of beautiful Lake Kivu.

After completing border formalities at the Gisenyi–Goma border, you will enter the Democratic Republic of Congo and proceed to your hotel in Goma.

Day 2: Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking Adventure

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the Kibati starting point, where the Nyiragongo hike begins.

Before starting the climb, park rangers will provide a safety briefing and explain the hiking regulations. You will begin the ascent accompanied by experienced guides, armed park rangers, and porters who can assist with carrying your luggage.

The hike takes approximately 5–8 hours, depending on the fitness level of the group and weather conditions. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of the Virunga volcanic landscape and surrounding forests.

Upon reaching the summit, you will settle into the mountain shelters and later witness the incredible sight of the boiling lava lake glowing against the darkness of the night sky.

Day 3: Descend Mount Nyiragongo – Transfer Back to Kigali

Once you reach Kibati, meet your driver-guide and transfer back through Goma and Gisenyi into Rwanda.

Continue to Kigali where you will have lunch before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or onward safari extension.

Mount Nyiragongo can be climbed throughout the year, but the best hiking conditions are usually during the drier months:
